iPhone 13 (Pro): Apple shows the new models
On Tuesday, Apple finally presented this year’s iPhone models to the public at its special event, but you have to look for outstanding features with a magnifying glass, Apple has instead concentrated on detailed improvements. In this article, we would therefore like to list the new features clearly for you, after all, almost nothing has changed in terms of the external design.
iPhone 13 mini
The cheapest way to enter the world of the iPhone 13 is with the mini. In the 128 GB basic configuration, this only costs 799 euros and is therefore also on the price level of other high-end Android smartphones. If you would rather have 256 GB of storage space, you have to spend 919 euros, and there is still a 512 GB version for 1149 euros.
The iPhone 13 mini is available in rose, blue, midnight, polar star and product red colors. With a size of 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.65 mm and a weight of just 140 grams, this is quite portable. Due to the size, however, a 5.4″ display has to be used, which has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and offers 476 ppi – OLED is used as the display technology. Speaking of the notch, this has been reduced by around 20 percent on all iPhone 13 models, but this is hardly noticeable on the product images.
In the iPhone 13 mini, Apple installs a 12-megapixel dual-camera system with wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle on the back, and a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera is available on the front. According to Apple, the quality of night shots has been greatly improved, but it remains to be seen how good the actual practical results are.
For the inner values, Apple relies on an A15 Bionic chip, which is a processor with a 6-core CPU consisting of 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, as well as a 4-core GPU and a 16-core neural engine integrated. Incidentally, the battery life has been extended by 1.5 hours compared to the previous model.
The „normal“ iPhone 13 also has all the new features of the iPhone 13 mini, but a slightly larger display is used here. Apple installs a 6.1″ OLED Super Retina XDR display, which has a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels and 460 ppi.
In terms of radio technology, both the iPhone 13 mini and the normal iPhone 13 support the new 5G standard, but Apple has further expanded the frequency range so that fast mobile networks are now also supported. Incidentally, dual eSIM can also be used for the first time in both models, so you no longer need a physical SIM card to be reachable under two phone numbers. A normal Nanosim slot is of course still installed.
With a new battery with the new A15 Bionic Chip, Apple has also extended the runtime of the iPhone 13 compared to the previous year’s model. According to the group, the iPhone 13 should have around 2.5 hours more battery life than an iPhone 12. With pure video playback, the device should last for around 19 hours, when streaming videos at least 15 hours and with pure audio playback even an impressive 75 hours.
In terms of price, the iPhone 13 is clearly in the higher-priced segment, the 128 GB version starts at 899 euros in Germany, the 256 GB version costs 1019 euros, while the 512 GB model costs 1249 euros. Apple also offers rose, blue, midnight, polar star and product red as housing colors.
iPhone 13 Pro
The iPhone 13 Pro is also available in a Max variant, which we will present to you in more detail below. Here, however, we would like to focus on the technical specifications of the „normal“ iPhone 13 Pro, which has a 6.1″ Super Retina XDR display with OLED screen technology, the normal brightness is up to 800 nits, in HDR mode it can even Peaks of 1200 nits can be reached.
In contrast to the cheaper standard models, the Pro version uses a „ProMotion“ display with 120 FPS, which makes scrolling feel even more natural. According to Apple, the smartphone automatically adjusts the refresh rate to the displayed image content in order to save battery, so if you are only reading an e-book, the display can also run variably with only 10 fps to automatically extend the battery life.
Technically, there is an Apple A15 Bionic chip inside, but this has an additional GPU core to probably be able to handle the 120 FPS refresh rate better. Apple has not yet published exact details such as the GHZ number or the like, so you will have to wait for future test reports. The battery life is 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Pro.
The Pro models are equipped with a 12 megapixel triple camera system, so a telephoto, wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens is installed. In addition, a LiDAR sensor is also included, this 3D scanner can capture the environment and thus ensure better portraits for night photos. Incidentally, the selfie camera on the front also offers a resolution of 12 megapixels.
The iPhone 13 Pro is available in Sierra blue, silver, gold and graphite, the price of the basic version with 128 GB starts at a proud 1249 euros, the 256 GB version costs 1369 euros, the 512 GB model 1599 euros and the 1 TB version available for the first time even 1829 euros. Note that you can only use the new 4K ProRes video mode on models with more than 128 GB, otherwise the resolution there is reduced to 1080p.
iPhone 13 Pro Max
From a feature point of view, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is identical to the iPhone 13 Pro model, only the size differs here. Instead of a 6.1″ display, Apple uses a 6.7″ OLED display for the Max version, the resolution is 2778 x 1284 pixels and thus offers a pixel density of 458 ppi. Battery life has been increased by 2.5 hours compared to an iPhone 12 Pro Max.
As with the iPhone 13 Pro model, the 128 GB version only supports 1080p videos when using the „ProRes“ video mode, so if you want to cover all the technical gadgets, you should use a version with a little more storage space.
The price of the 128 GB version starts at 1249 euros, for the 256 GB model 1359 euros have to be put on the table. Alternatively, Apple also offers a variant with 512 GB for 1599 euros or a memory configuration of 1 TB for a whopping 1829 euros. Like the regular Pro model, the Pro Max is available in Sierra Blue, Silver, Gold, and Graphite.
